W.W.A Presents: "Telling Our Story: Using Setting as Character"

  • 131 Spring Street New York, NY, 10012 United States (map)

Join us for Meeting No. 4 of the 2025–2026 workshop!

This week, we’re exploring Setting as Character. We’ll examine how place can hold emotional memory and drive a story forward. Instead of serving as a simple backdrop, setting becomes a living, breathing presence that shapes mood, tension, and transformation.

We’ll begin workshopping member submissions for peer review (limit 5 readers max).

📚 Mandatory Reading:
“The Killing Spree” by Jolie Graham
“At the End, There Is Always a House” by Sara Eliza Johnson
(Members have access to all readings for the year. Click here to become a member!)

We will also begin workshopping our writing this meeting! The first FIVE members to submit their work via email will have the opportunity to have their piece peer-reviewed during the session.

We’re reviewing these submissions as potential selections for the upcoming issue of our literary magazine, LUNA, and we are only accepting work that aligns with this year’s theme: Storytelling. We welcome poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, personal essays, and short scripts. Please keep all submissions to three pages or fewer.

Once you RSVP, email your piece to writerswithattitudenyc@gmail.com with a subject line that includes your name, date, and title. An RSVP is required before submitting your work.

Workshopping will be available at our in-person meetings only. Virtual options are not available at this time.
