Calling All Writers & Creatives 🗣️

Join us for Meeting No. 2 of the 2026-2027 workshop!

This year, our theme is Writing Across the Diaspora, where we're reading works by writers who highlight the joys and hardships of their cultural upbringing, experiment with a range of literary forms, and explore how ancestry and tradition shape our understanding of one's identity.

We're continuing our literary series with “Audre Lorde’s Caribbean Roots & Becoming.” In Chapter 11 of her biomythography, Zami: A New Spelling of My Name, we’ll read and discuss how Lorde draws upon Caribbean culinary rituals, embodied memories, and her mother’s teachings to preserve traditions and navigate her sense of identity, sexuality, and womanhood. Through her intimate reflections in the kitchen, we’ll see how the tensions between familial expectations and personal autonomy shape her journey of self-discovery.

Each meeting offers writers the chance to engage in literary discussion, a writing activity and peer review.

Writers have the option of workshopping their writing. Personal works to be workshopped must be inspired by the theme, “Writing Across the Diaspora” and be within 3 pages. Genres of works accepted for peer review include poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction and essays. No screenplays.
