Welcome to Writing Across the Diaspora
We decided to take this year’s theme beyond the workshop and create a fun, online space where you can interact and explore the languages, cultures, and traditions woven into the work of the writers we’re reading. Through three ongoing series, Words Around the World, Literary Passports, and If You Like This, Read This, you’ll have the opportunity to engage more deeply with the writers we’re reading and the cultural worlds their work invites us into.
In Words Around the World, we’ll discover words and expressions from languages connected to each writers’ homelands and cultural traditions. The Literary Passport will take us beyond the byline and into the worlds that shape the writers we read. Each passport spotlights a writer’s roots, cultural influences, personal history, featured work, and memorable words, offering a closer look at the experiences and identities they carry onto the page. And through the If You Like This, Read This series, we’ll help you discover what to read next by pairing books by our featured writers with the themes, settings, styles, and ideas you already love to explore in stories.
We will update this biweekly in accordance with the workshop’s focus that week.
